New Means of Transport - Notification of the acquisition

Notes for the completion of this form.

You must ensure that the completed form is dispatched in sufficient time for it. to be received by the due date at Customs Central Processing Unit (see below).

The notification should be in the English language and should be made by post to:-

When Customs process your notification, they will need to see the original purchase invoice, any foreign registration documents you hold, and any documents relating to the transport of the new means of transport and its arrival in the UK. The processing will be completed more quickly if you send these documents with your notification.

Customs will calculate how much VAT you owe and send you a bill, which you must pay within 30 days of its issue.

You must ensure that your completed notification reaches the Central Processing Unit within 7 days of the arrival of your new means of transport into the UK. Failure to do so may render you liable to a financial penalty.

EVIDENCE OF ENTITLEMENT TO RELIEF - e.g. if you are a British diplomat, enclose the authority from your Embassy management officer. All other diplomats should enclose copy 3 of completed form C426. Forces personnel should submit an authority from BFG (Customs & Immigration) or similar document.

AGENT - Any person or business acting on your behalf in the purchase or transportation of your NMT, or making arrangements for the registration of your vehicle or payment of the VAT on your behalf.

MILEAGE - The mileage on the clock when the vehicle arrived in the United Kingdom.
